What is the purpose of my life?

You are not the only one with that question. More and more people are asking themselves the same thing. Often while they have a good life: a bit busy, successful, financially stable, nice house, great partner. But still: what is the purpose of my life?

You can, of course, answer that question from different perspectives. From your own values and standards: I live to be kind to others and to leave this earth in good shape for the next generations. Or more focused on yourself: I make the most of what life has to offer and enjoy it to the fullest.

We believe in the Biblical perspective. The Bible gives at least three answers to the question: 'What is the purpose of my life'?

  1. The purpose of your life is to honor God. God is your Creator and therefore has the right to the honor you might want to give to someone or something else. So you do not live for yourself, but you live for God and care about what His will is.
  2. The purpose of your life is also to love God and your 'neighbors' (all other people). A healthy self-love is also Biblical.
  3. The Bible also says that the purpose of your life is to know God personally. That brings a lot of joy and happiness. But it is not automatic: it requires repentance, turning to Him, and leaving behind sins that hold you back.
